NIGERIA AT 65


     Nigeria hoisted her green-white-green flag on 1st October, 1960 in the place of Union Jack and the self-rule started and a new nation took its birth. Sixty five years on, and that legendary day acts as a reminder of the hardship, sacrifice and aspirations that gave birth to the most populous African nation.

     Nigeria at 65 is resiliency. The country, even with the tempests of political unrest, economic recessions, insecurity, and social issues, remains on its feet due to the sheer force of determination of her people. In sports and entertainment, technology, academic worlds and other sectors, Nigerians have always demonstrated that we are great.

        However, sober reflection is also required to achieve this milestone. The question is; have we really fulfilled the promise of independence? Have we made a nation where justice, equity and prosperity prevail among all the people? The solutions might not be easy, but they guide us to the pressing reality of honesty in leadership, accountability in citizenship and the togetherness in our diversity.

       To the young ones, rather than a celebration, Nigeria at 65 is a call to action. We are the majority group and the future of this nation lies in our creativity, our voices and our decisions. In classrooms, innovation centres, farms or even political arenas, young Nigerians need to stand up with aspiration and integrity to forge a more promising future of the country.

       In commemorating this amazing independence anniversary, we should bring the dream of our founding fathers to life, a Nigeria in which peace and progress are not merely written in a coat of arms, but is a reality. Nigeria is still possibly still in the journey but with unity, courage, and the strength of her people, the chance of a better tomorrow is not yet dead. Happy Independence Day, Nigeria!

A move in history that has set a new era in the history of the department since its inception. She  is a lecturer at the Soil Chemistry Unit, whose rich knowledge and research work remain an inspiration among the students. Dr Julius Orimoloye of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning Unit has also been promoted to Professor. His promotion is a reward of his years of dedication, scholarly work, and benefitting the department and the university community. AGRONOMY: A department of Winners

  Earlier today, 7th of November, 2025, Agronomy students experienced multiple wins in the Literary and Debating Organization for the Faculty of Agriculture, that is, the Vocal Knights Literary and Debating Society. The representatives of the department, Najimdeen Rabiu Ayomide (a 300-level Soil Resources Management Unit student) and Popoola Taiwo Abidat (a 200-level Soil Resources Management Unit student), emerged second position with 72.92% at Agri-Speak 3.0, organized by the Vocal Knights Literary and Debating Society. The Deputy Knight Commander of the Vocal Knights Literary and Debating Society, Kayode Grace from the Agronomy Department (a 500-level student of the Crop and Horticultural Sciences Unit), handed the position over to another person today. Popoola Taiwo Abidat will be the Deputy Knight Commander for the upcoming session.
