AGY PRESS CLUB

  BY: Ademola Ifeoluwa  The Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Ibadan through the Department of Soil Resources Management, on the 29th of October, 2025, had an impressive milestone with the promotion of two of their lecturers from Doctorate  into the Professor rank.  Professor Eunice Thomas, is the first female Professor in the history of the department, since soil resources  management became a department. A move in history that has set a new era in the history of the department since its inception. She  is a lecturer at the Soil Chemistry Unit, whose rich knowledge and research work remain an inspiration among the students. Dr Julius Orimoloye of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning Unit has also been promoted to Professor. His promotion is a reward of his years of dedication, scholarly work, and benefitting the department and the university community. Congratulations to Professor Eunice Thomas and Professor Julius Orimoloye.

We have been taking a PAUSA since the beginning of the AGY WEEK, with GAMES DAY held on Monday. Different kinds of games were played during this event, such as draft, cardboard games, etc. These games bonded students from lower and higher levels, and memories that would not be forgotten so soon were created. On Tuesday, AGY launched its first FIRST AID BOX on the HEALTH DAY. Dr. Asika was also present on this day, to enlighten the students on their dental health. Did you know you have to change your toothbrush every three months? Well, now you know. The students of AGY went back in time to their secondary school days on Wednesday, when they dressed in different forms of uniforms and had a runway challenge, with Adaolowo Kenry and Aiyejina Cherish (representatives of 500-level) crowned as the King and Queen of the runway challenge, during the BACK TO SCHOOL DAY. “The Emergence of Agri Revolution: What’s Next?” Seasoned speakers like Farmer Samson Ogbole, Mr. Femi Adekoya, Farmer Adeola ...

  It has been weeks of vigorous activities, from having to meet up with early morning lectures, to staying late in classes for evening lectures, to working on the farm, screenhouse, laboratory, etc. The best thing for us to do now is to take a break. Taking a break does not limit our productivity, because, at times, the most productive thing to do is to PAUSA. All the executive members of the Vision Team, led by Adaolowo Kenry, have put in a lot of effort to make this break, AGRONOMY WEEK, really worthy for us, and to serve its true essence of calming our nerves in the midst of academic brouhaha. Greatest Agronomists, all we need to do is show up in these events. It is definitely going to be a great week, with the lineup of events which include Games Day, Health Day, Back to School Day, Personality Lecture Day, and Cultural Dance Night. PAUSA! PAUSA! PAUSA!      The third edition of the annual Prof. A. B. Olaniyan Agro-Competition — the final round — took place today, 2nd of October, 2025, at the Moshood Esuola Adeleke Conference Room, in the Department of Crop and Horticultural Sciences.       The event was organized to celebrate brilliance among students and also served as an avenue to learn, unlearn, and relearn different concepts in Agriculture, particularly in Crop and Horticultural Sciences.      The representatives of 100-level and 400-level scored 30 points and 50 points respectively. The representatives of 300-level, Najimdeen Ayomide and Maruf Summayah, scored 70 points and emerged in third position.       The representatives of 500-level, Salako Ayuba and Bakati Winner, scored 80 points and emerged in second position.
