NAIRA REDESIGN: A FLOP?   The unveiling of the redesigned naira notes was met with disappointment from Nigerians. A lot of people have insisted that CBN should not call it " naira redesigning" but rather call it “ naira dyeing ”.  To determine if the naira redesign was actually a currency redesign or a currency dyeing, it is essential to know what a currency redesign is.  Currency redesign is a process through which currency-issuing countries improve their currency’s security to deter counterfeiting. This is the main aim of currency redesign. This practice is usually done every 5-8 years. In Nigeria, the naira redesign is already 12 years due.  According to the CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the naira redesign was necessitated by the fact that banknotes worth about N2.73 trillion (85%) out of the N3.23 trillion currency in circulation were outside commercial banks as of September 2022.  The naira redesign aimed to rein in the banknotes outside the ban...

MENTAL HEALTH: CAUSES, TYPES & SOLUTIONS In Nigeria, we have become so stereotyped that immediately a person talks about mental health, ninety percent of people conclude that it’s all about madness; the picture of a chronic lunatic comes to their minds.  The truth is, mental health isn’t something that is written on the forehead. A lot of people walk around and live their daily lives oblivious to the decline in their mental health. A person mustn’t begin to display signs of insanity or start exhibiting strange behaviors before their mental health declines. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines mental health as a state of well-being that enables people to cope with the stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn well and work well and contribute to their community, so your mental health is important for you to live well and make good decisions. According to the WHO, Mental health goes beyond mental disorders and it is experienced differently from one pers...

Of Lemon and Lemonade I was a pantser, everything was well outlined; after this then the other.  But fate played me a fool. I bear the tale of destiny, that of a wounded surgeon, now tilling the land with gloved hands, the plants now his beloved. It's not a tale of regret, but that of memories that brighten the heart. The tides of life toss us around, but in the end, fate has the upper hand. Ummulkhayr. 200l.

MIND LIMITATIONS. Not in my wildest dream. Who could have thought that there is a better version of me Aki ntunde Oluwafemi Daniel? Born into an average family, the childhood I had has always kept me  on the disadvantaged side of the road.  I feared being overly hopeful and so I never expected much. I was always very neutral and satisfied with my average scores and lifestyle. But if only I had known that thriving for the better is not covetousness and a trial isn't a crime, I wouldn't have to put up with all the struggles nor try to conceal the fierce battle within me. People always say  "I find it hard to relate with you". Well, I also found it hard to help myself. My negative thoughts pattern, the shell I had to build around me, pushed people away as though they never existed as I have never believed genuine people existed. The only people who made sense to me were my family members. And when life starts to have some glow in it, I’ll forever be grateful that I met...

Vast lands in Indonesia and Thailand are the world's source of Oryza sativa. Ummulkhayr, 200L.

AGRICULTURE (THE LAST MAN STANDING) The  "last man standing" refers to a competition, or contest, in which the field of participants is narrowed until only a single individual remains. "The last man standing" originally applied to the last boxer to remain upright during a match. The last man standing in this contest is "AGRICULTURE".  Subsistence farming has now become what sustains a lot of households in the country. Crude oil is one but the impact of agriculture on the Nigerian economy cannot be overemphasized. Agriculture in its part has helped to improve human lives in many ways which include; 1. Food Production  2. Provision of shelter and clothing 3. Job creation (employment opportunities) 4. Provision of raw materials for industrial use 5. Generation of foreign exchange earnings etc. The above mentioned have notably helped Agriculture to have an immense contribution to Nigeria's GDP with a notable increase in percentage year in and year out.  ROBOTS: A REPLACEMENT OF THE HUMAN FORCE? Artificial Intelligence, which is the core of robotics, has become a part of our daily lives. From your email app’s spam classification of emails to your phone’s keyboard word suggestions as you type, artificial intelligence is at work.  Artificial intelligence and robotics are also deployed in various sectors of the economy. For example, we have robots in the manufacturing industry that perform repetitive tasks that are usually boring and tiring to human workers. The robots are able to do more work within a shorter time, thereby reducing the cost of production for companies. In the agricultural sector, incorporating robotics and artificial intelligence is also making a huge positive impact. Robots can be used to carry out laborious activities such as weeding or harvesting. The negative impact of pesticides on human health is also reduced through the use of drones for aerial pesticide application. A few days ago, the Nigerian governme...

Behind The Current Petrol Scarcity : Reasons and Wonders!  No end in sight as things only seems to get worse in Nigeria with increasing level of insecurity, educational and economic miseries, and now worsening fuel scarcity. 2022 gradually winds down but it has indeed been a year filled with different ripples and events. The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has urged the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd. (NNPCL) to give the same window given to the Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN) to buy fuel at a regulated depot price of N148.17 per litre.  The Chairman of IPMAN Ejigbo Depot, Mr. Akin Akinrinade appealed on Wednesday as he wondered why private depots get petrol from NNPCL at an official rate of N148. 17 per litre but sell at N220 per liter ex-depot price to IPMAN. The price disparity at which NNPC is selling petrol to major marketers at a regulated price and the private depots are selling to the independent marketer...

The Backstory - Complain. Condemn. Criticize. "It's a norm for me to go to class with my classmate. But sometimes, she irritates me. I mean, why exactly is she always late? Can't she just be early for once? Now, I'm going to be late for class and it'll be her fault. This is so frustrating." Tomi murmured under her breath.  Suddenly, she lifted her head and said to Shola, the so-called friend, with a smile that doesn't depict her inner turmoil, "are you ready to go?" Tola said  "I'm coming. It's not even 8:00 AM. It's just 7:59". Resigning to her fate, Tomi sat back and watch her friend wastes her time. Fast forward to the end of the day, Tomi started complaining to her roommates about how Shola is always wasting her time. "But I can't tell her that I want to go along. I don't have that courage and she might think I'm being too serious".  Her roommates advised her to exercise patience and tell Shola her...

THE WOMAN KING: A PROPER REPRESENTATION OF THE AFRICAN HISTORY?  With action-packed scenes and deep African societal themes, The Woman King is a spectacle to behold. The Woman King is a historical movie set in the kingdom of Dahomey (modern-day Benin kingdom), during the 18th and 19th centuries.  During this period, Dahomey is under tribute to the Oyo empire. At this time Dahomey is also renowned for its brave all-woman fighting unit dedicated to protecting the kingdom of Dahomey - the Agojie.   The Woman King stars actors such as  Viola Davis as Nanisca, the surprisingly teen-looking 31-year-old Thuso Mbedo as Nawi, Lashana Lynch as Izogie, and John Boyega as King Ghezo among others.  The movie aims to promote feminine power, The Woman King also tackles some uncomfortable themes such as colonialism, greed, and the role of some African people - the Oyo empire and Dahomey- in the slave trade of their fellow Africans to the Europeans. The movie centers ...

THE BIG QUESTION : Is The Mother Part Of The Family? Sade Augustine was a girl from an average Nigerian family. They were neither rich nor poor, with a Father, mother and two brothers. She grew up knowing her mother to be irresponsible, being nonchalant about her children, and her father to be a very responsible man. Mr. Augustine was a very busy man since he needed to make ends meet for the family. He traveled near and far as a contractor within the country. He was a highly intelligent and sound contractor and contracts keep coming in for him. As you can see, Sade lacked the person that can instill the necessary life values in lack, still, she didn’t lose her morals. She always felt irritated whenever the word ‘mother’ was mentioned. She had frequent fight with her mum.  One of it was a day she called her mum by her first name instead of mummy.  Mum : Sade come here and massage my feet, I am very tried. Sade: Mum I can’t, I’m having menstrual cramps. Mum:   And ...

ORGANIC FARMING: THE WAY OUT! Organic Farming is a branch of crop production which deals majorly with the growing of crops that are free from Synthetic fertilizers and agrochemicals.  Organic farming can be defined as an agricultural process that uses biological fertilizers and pest control acquired from animal or plant waste. In other words, organic farming is a new system of farming or agriculture that repairs, maintains, and improves the ecological balance. The use of inorganic fertilizers for growing crops sprouts from a need to improve soil fertility and crop yield but these can be adequately achieved inherently through the use of eco-friendly and less hazardous materials that do not have an adverse effect on the consumer and on the environment. One of the major benefits of Organic farming is that it enables the farmer to save the ecosystem from further damage and allows for the sustainable development of soils microflora and macrofauna. Also, Healthy and more nutritious food ...
