THE SOUND WE ALL HEARD.
I bet your first thought was that a huge thing fell from the sky? A racing car tyre busted? Ohhh it just a thunder? Is this the end time?
Unfortunately, yesterday in Ibadan was marked by a tragedy. The city experienced a devastating explosion that caused widespread damage, casualties, and urgent rescue efforts. Here's what we know:
- CAUSE: The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, but Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has attributed it to illegal miners storing explosive materials in a building.
- IMPACTS: Governor Seyi Makinde reported two confirmed fatalities and 77 injured. Search and rescue operations are still ongoing, so the numbers may unfortunately rise.
- RESPONSE: Security personnel, including the army and police anti-bomb units, have been deployed to the affected area, and search and rescue operations are continuing. The Oyo State government has urged residents to remain calm and assured them that the situation is under control
It's important to note that information is still evolving, and conflicting reports may exist. However, the details provided are based on reliable news sources.
We offer condolences to everyone affected and are grateful to God there has been no report of Casualties within the University of Ibadan.
