 How to Make Money as a Student from Plastic Waste




Plastic waste is increasingly being a nuisance to the environment. The indiscriminate use and disposal defies the 3Rs of sustainability which are Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. As a student whose aim is to provide solutions to problems, I think we can make a goldmine from Plastic waste.

How?

Let me teach you. 

There are several ways you can make money as a student from plastic waste:


1. Recycling

Collect plastic waste from your campus or neighborhood and take it to a recycling center. Most recycling centers pay for plastic by weight. For instance, you can use a recycling app called Trashcoin to get paid for your collated plastic bottles.


2. Upcycling

Upcycling involves transforming waste materials, such as plastic bottles or bags, into new products that have a higher value. For example, you could make tote bags or pencil cases out of plastic bags.


3. Selling

You can sell plastic waste to companies that use recycled plastic in their products. Look for companies that specialize in sustainable products, or contact local manufacturers to see if they are interested in purchasing your plastic waste.


4. Composting

Composting is the process of breaking down organic waste into a nutrient-rich soil amendment. You can collect plastic waste that is not recyclable, such as plastic utensils, and use it as a bulking agent in your compost pile. You can then sell the compost to gardeners or use it to grow your own plants.


5. Participating in plastic waste clean-up programs

Some organizations offer incentives for collecting plastic waste from beaches or other public areas. You can participate in these programs and earn money or rewards for your efforts.


Overall, making money from plastic waste requires creativity and determination. Look for opportunities in your community and try different methods to see what works best for you.

AGRONOMY: A department of Winners

  Earlier today, 7th of November, 2025, Agronomy students experienced multiple wins in the Literary and Debating Organization for the Faculty of Agriculture, that is, the Vocal Knights Literary and Debating Society. The representatives of the department, Najimdeen Rabiu Ayomide (a 300-level Soil Resources Management Unit student) and Popoola Taiwo Abidat (a 200-level Soil Resources Management Unit student), emerged second position with 72.92% at Agri-Speak 3.0, organized by the Vocal Knights Literary and Debating Society. The Deputy Knight Commander of the Vocal Knights Literary and Debating Society, Kayode Grace from the Agronomy Department (a 500-level student of the Crop and Horticultural Sciences Unit), handed the position over to another person today. Popoola Taiwo Abidat will be the Deputy Knight Commander for the upcoming session.
