Balancing Academics and Social Activities in The University
The sixth week of the second semester is currently ongoing. This period is known for various social activities like elections, faculty Dean’s Cup, inter-hall and inter-faculty competitions, Jaw War etc. However, many students struggle with academics during this time due to an imbalance between academics and extracurricular activities.
To have a successful university experience, it is essential to strike a healthy balance between academics and extracurricular activities. Failing to do so can lead to poor performance in either area, causing stress and anxiety. Here are some tips that can help in achieving this balance:
1. Prioritize Academics
While extracurricular activities are crucial, academics should always come first. Getting good grades and learning as much as possible from classes should be the primary focus. Passing tests is not enough; students must learn the material to apply it after graduation.
2. Schedule
Planning out tasks and prioritizing them is essential. Students should schedule around their classes and leave enough time for studying before scheduling extracurricular activities.
3. Be Selective with Extracurricular Activities
Joining every club or sport activity offered on campus can drain a student's time and energy. It is better to select three or four activities that one is genuinely interested in and that can contribute to their success. Obtaining leadership positions in these activities is also beneficial.
4. Take Breaks
Overworking to achieve academic goals can lead to stress. Studying for 45 minutes to an hour with a five to ten-minute break in between helps maintain concentration levels. Stretching and recharging with a snack is also essential.
5. Take Care of Your Health
Maintaining good health is vital for optimal performance. Eating healthy, drinking enough water, and getting adequate sleep is crucial. By following these steps, students can ensure that they perform to the best of their abilities in academics and extracurricular activities.
