 PRESIDENCY

The Nigeria Presidential election is a critical event that takes place every four years. It is the process by which Nigerian citizens elect their President, who serves as the head of state and commander-in-chief of the country's armed forces. The election is conducted in accordance with the Nigerian Constitution, and it is overseen by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Nigeria has a history of elections that have been marred by violence, fraud, and irregularities. Ahead of the 2023 presidential election, some potential issues that could impact the outcome include insecurity, the economy, and voter turnout. However, the most recent general election was noted by the initially high projected turnout and mainly peaceful voting but was marred by reports of vote buying, voter intimidation, attacks on polling units in certain areas, and unpunctual electoral officials along with accusations of outright fraud; to compound issues with trust in the election, Independent National Electoral Commission officials failed to upload polling unit results to the INEC result viewing portal as previously assured would happen on election day.

The 2023 Nigerian presidential election was held on 25 February 2023 to elect the president and vice president of Nigeria. And after a few days that seems like forever, INEC declares Bola Tinubu, a former Governor of Lagos State and nominee of the All Progressives Congress the winner. Runners-up were former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peoples Democratic Party, and former Governor of Anambra State Peter Obi, Labour Party, who both immediately challenged the outcome of the presidential result, approaching the tribunal to seek the nullification of Tinubu’s emergence as President-elect.

The President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a prominent Nigerian politician who served as the Governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007. He was instrumental in the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which is currently Nigeria's ruling party. Tinubu is widely regarded as one of the most influential politicians in Nigeria, and he has been a key figure in Nigerian politics for several decades.

Tinubu's political career began in the 1990s when he was elected to the Senate of Nigeria. He later served as the Commissioner for Works in Lagos State before being elected as Governor in 1999. As Governor, Tinubu implemented several policies that were seen as innovative and effective, including the introduction of a traffic management system known as "LASTMA" and the creation of a public-private partnership program for infrastructure development.

Since leaving office as Governor, Tinubu has remained a major player in Nigerian politics. Tinubu declares his intention for the 2023 presidency "Emi lol kan" contested primarily and defeated 13 other aspirants to emerge the flag bearer at the end of the Special National Convention of the party on Wednesday in Abuja. And was declared the winner on March 1st, 2023.

The President-elect appreciated all for voting for him and also promised to give his utmost best, to listen and to do the difficult things, the big deeds, that put us on the path of irreversible progress, and also to make peace, unity, and prosperity the cornerstone of the country.

...

The president-elect left for France on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, to take a rest as it has been days and months of hard labour campaigning for his great wins.

However, there have been allegations that the purpose of the travel was not to rest but to meet up with the Chief Justice of Nigeria, who had left Nigeria for London on March 11.

...

We await the result of the court ruling. Till then and afterward, we hope for a peaceful and blissful Nigeria.
